Stay At The Silver Sands Resort In Rockaway Beach, Oregon

Silver Sands Resort - Rockaway Beach OR

One of our favorite road trips shouldn’t surprise most people who live in the Pacific Northwest. Highway 101 up and down the Oregon Coast offers some of the best scenery in the region. Stopping at the many public beaches, state parks and recreation sites, and small beach towns can turn any drive into a full day event. There really is so much to see that it makes it hard to stay penned up in the car too long.

A great place to stop for a few hours, overnight, or even for a stay of a few days or more is Rockaway Beach. If you’re looking for a place to spend the night while you’re there, you can’t go wrong with choosing the Silver Sands Resort.

Silver Sands Resort - Rockaway Beach OR

When you stay at Silver Sands Resort you’re staying at a true beachfront hotel. Your room is going to give you a wonderful view of the beach and the Pacific Ocean. There are even trails that lead right fron the grassy area out in front of the hotel down to the soft sand and the surf beyond it. High tide, low tide, and all times in between; you’re conveniently located in a spot where you can access the beach at a moment’s notice.

The staff at the Silver Sands is very friendly and extremely helpful. This is an older hotel but has been modernized and updated in some important ways. We found the microwave and mini fridge to be very helpful and convenient. This is the perfect place to go for that classic small beach town vacation experience.

While, like us, you’re probably considering an Oregon Coast vacation because you want to be near the ocean, there are still some things you’ll want back at your hotel. The Silver Sands Resort has a lot to offer in that regard too, including a pool, hot tub, and spa. You’ll also find flat screen televisions and free wireless internet too. A nice homey touch is the board games available to borrow from the office.

One of the best things about the Silver Sands Resort is its location in Rockaway Beach. It’s right in the center of this small vacation getaway and there are several shops and restaurants in all directions. Rockaway Beach is a nice little town and getting out and exploring it on foot can be a lot of fun.

An Awesome Stay At Newport, Oregon’s Hallmark Resort

Hallmark Exterior

The Oregon Coast is a wonderful place to head to at anytime of the year. It offers incredible scenery and stunning natural beauty. It also offers a long list of fun things to do. To enjoy it all though, you need a place to stay.

On a recent trip to the Newport area, we got the chance to stay at the Hallmark Resort. This turned out to be an awesome choice. The Hallmark Resort in Newport sits right on the coast and the view of the beach, rock formations, cliffsides, and of course the ocean, are one of the exact reasons we had come there. This was an opportunity to get away from it all and have fun at the ocean at what is essentially an offseason time of the year. Enjoying the Oregon Coast during the colder months though is very easy. Personally, I just love watching the power of Mother Nature as the winter storms roll in off the Pacific Ocean.

The Hallmark Resort worked as a great headquarter as we ventured out and explored what was there in town, including the Yaquina Head Lighthouse, local marine science center, and the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Plus, anyone who has been to Newport knows that you can also have a lot of fun, and get a tasty bite to eat, when you hang out down in the small but vibrant waterfront area. There were also, of course, a ton of opportunities to get out on the sand and watch the waves up close too. Finding something to do while in Newport was not going to be a problem.

Hallmark Interior

One of those things to do though was spend some quality time back at the hotel we’d chosen, the Hallmark Resort Newport. We stayed in a double queen room on the top floor that featured a full balcony, kitchenette, and more. The room was extremely clean and very comfortable. Among other things, our room also featured free high speed wireless, two flat screen televisions, and a living room type area that was separated from the bedroom area.

Hallmark Pool

With the kids in tow, the pool area was very popular. Both had a ton of fun down on the beach, but getting to the pool at the Hallmark Resort was a nice escape from the outdoor conditions. This amazing resort features a large indoor saltwater pool and spa. There is also a fitness room and sauna there too. Our kids also had fun utilizing the horseshoe pits there too, along with the children’s playground.

If we’d been there without the kids, I imagine we would’ve taken more advantage of other amenities like the possibility of on-site massages and room service. It’s also important to know that, though we didn’t have a specific need, the Hallmark Resort in Newport is a pet friendly establishment.

We also took advantage of having a meal at Georgie’s Beachside Grill which is right next door.

Staying at Rivertide Suites in Seaside, Oregon

Seaside, Oregon is a small community that sits on Oregon’s northern coastline. In fact, it is just a short drive to Seaside after crossing the Columbia River from Washington. It was first built up as a summer getaway in the late 1800s by a railroad tycoon. More than 100 years later, Seaside is still a fun and pleasant getaway.

One of the things that makes Seaside a nice place to go in the hot days of summer is that the weather is usually a little cooler there than in other locations further south. Seaside also has some strong history surrounding it as it was one of the final spots reached by the Lewis and Clark expedition.

Seaside-RivertideSuites

I’ve stayed twice at Rivertide Suites in Seaside, and each time it was something special. I enjoyed staying within a short walk of the ocean beach but having a nice view of the Necanicum River. There is surprisingly a lot of action on the river and it is fun to watch it all play out in front of you.

Rivertide Suites sits right in the middle of all of the Seaside action downtown. You can find all sorts of eating establishments, shopping venues, and just fun things to see and do within an easy stroll. It also is not far from Rivertide Suites to the famous Seaside Promenade for a nice walk along the shore. You can also easily make it over to the classic aquarium and the city’s video game arcade pretty easily too.

Rivertide Suites is a true first class hotel, and it shows. The indoor pool and hot tub area was immaculate, as was the room we stayed in. There is a gym, wi-fi access, business center, and more. The continental breakfast had a wide variety of choices so that all of us could find something that we wanted.

Normally, I love to sample different places when I road trip around the Pacific Northwest. Rivertide Suites in Seaside though had earned a return visit.

Portland’s Hotel Monaco

Visiting Portland, in need of a stay, and wanting to sample one of the city’s “boutique” hotels, I was able to book a room at Portland’s Hotel Monaco.

I was in town for some general fun. I intended to get downtown and sample some craft beer and do some shopping. I also intended to hit some industrial areas and see if I could come up with any good ghost sign action. I had fun doing both but this wasn’t too big of a surprise as Portland is always a great destination.

One big reason that I had such a great time though was the Hotel Monaco. Honestly, there were quite a few times that I just wanted to head back to the hotel and hang out there. I was won over immediately by the hosted wine reception in the lobby on my first evening. Turns out this is an every night event. The hotel also included a fitness center, business center, room service, and morning coffee. It was just so over-the-top welcoming from the minute I walked in the door.

The rooms were top notch too and best of all, it didn’t feel like I was in a motel room. The decor was amazing. It really made me feel like I was spending the night in an upscale apartment or vacation rental.

The staff at the Hotel Monaco in Portland were incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable about the local surroundings and fun things to do and see. I was even steered towards a dinner theater that was a blast and something I never would have sought out myself.

I cannot say enough about my time at the Hotel Monaco in Portland. Incredibly, incredibly memorable.

Lincoln City’s Siletz Bay Lodge

Lincoln City has been like a magnet to me since I was a little kid. I have so many great memories of heading to this part of the Oregon Coast with my mom, brother, and sister. Without fail, I cannot let more than a couple years go by now without returning their even these days.

My last trip through this always changing and always welcoming little oceanside slice of paradise saw me staying at the Siletz Bay Lodge. Siletz Bay has a unique look about it when compared to the rest of Lincoln City that sits out on the ocean beach. You can still easily get to the oceanfront beach, it’s just a short walk, but staying on this little bay can give you a feeling of being tucked away in a cozy nook while still being right in the middle of it all.

Lincoln City Siletz Bay Lodge

The lodge itself is awesome. It is very modern and very clean. Our room not only featured the basic necessities for a night away from home, but also had free wi-fi, plenty of computer ports, a coffee maker, and both a microwave and a refrigerator. Outside the room, the rest of the lodge featured a gift shop, laundry area, comfortable sitting area, and a hot tub that we had to make use of. The continental breakfast was also very nice, offering something for everyone.

Lincoln City is famous for its seven and a half miles of walkable beaches. Accessing them from the Siletz Bay Lodge was extremely easy too. Other nearby attractions included the Tanger Outlet Mall, D’River Wayside, Desert Storm War Memorial, Devils Lake, and more. Plus, just hanging out and watching the action that takes place on the small bay is fun too. To experience Lincoln City fully, I thought this pleasant little lodge was perfectly placed.

The Siletz Bay Lodge played a big role in us having yet another fun memory making trip to the Lincoln City area.
